At the print shop where I work, we commonly use a rich black mix of 30-30-50-100 and set text below 12 or 14pt in plain K to overprint (in fact, I believe this can be automated in InDesign, maybe in the Ink Manager). I've also used 40-40-60-100. I suppose it's possible that the ink total gets adjusted at prepress and we're not told...
